Campaign Kickoff BBQ Huge Success

Welcome to my new blog! For the past 60 days I have been exploring a candidacy for Georgia's First Congressional District. During this time I traveled to all 25 counties of the district meeting with citizens and discussing their issues. My values, military and educational background and vision for South Georgia and America really connected with people. I am excited to say that due to strong support, not only from Democrats but from Republicans and Independents, I am now an OFFICIAL Candidate for the First Congressional District! I made my official announcement on Sunday during a Campaign Kickoff BBQ at my home on Tybee Island. You can watch a video of the party and my speech, or view pictures of the event. I also held a Press Conference on Monday in Valdosta announcing my decision. Media outlets across Georgia reported the story. Some of the highlights include an article in the Valdosta Daily-Times, a television feature on WCTV CBS and a radio interview on WLYU 100.9 FM. I look forward to corresponding with voters here on this blog. Please post your comments on the issues, this election and the political scene. I will be making posts and checking for comments regularly. Let's make this blog a smart, fun and open forum for ideas!

Please comment on Jack Kingston's bone-headed legislation to honor Rush Limbaugh, introduce after the "phoney soldiers" comment.

Thank you for the comment Matt. The legislative proposal was indeed boneheaded and a waste of taxpayer resources. Mr. Kingston has better things to do than grandstand for a radio talk show host. He should be working hard to serve the people of South Georgia. I disagree with the proposal's intent, too, no soldier is "phoney."

I am so happy to know that a Warrior is running for Office. I hate poloticians and beauracrats equally, but an honorable soldier is very refreshing. I WISH THERE WERE AT LEAST TWO OF YOU...

Our Airforce is badly underfunded & its aircraft is old & out of date, our schools ( public ) are going down the drain, & healthcare is spiraling out of control. Mr, Gillespie you are the person that can address these issues once you become our next congressman. People have had enough of kingston & his radical- neo-conservative views because it is hurting us here in the first district. Plus our veterans need to be taken care of when they return from war to be able to integrate back into society & have the ability to get a job once they return.

Bill, I met you last night at the Glynn Democratic Low Country Boil and am so happy you are a candidate. I think people in this District are looking for
(1) Respect, (2) Representation, (3) Responsiveness, and (4) Responsibility. The four "Rs" as I like to call them.

I support your candidacy and am putting a check to you in the mail today.

Mr. Gillespie,

As resident of Georgia's First District, I am very excited about you run for office. I do find it disturbing that your picture is displayed prominently on the website www.schoolpolice.blogspot.com. Without commenting on the correctness of Mr. Rogers views, I find his posts highly inflammatory and filled with conspiracy theories. Talking with fellow voter's I don't think I'm alone.

Thank you,
Concerned Constituent

I appreciate your input "Concerned Constituent." My candidacy is getting support from a wide variety of people with diverse philosophies and backgrounds. There's many issues they don't agree upon, but what my supporters (like you and Mr. Rogers) do agree on is that Southeast Georgia needs a strong leader in Congress that puts PEOPLE FIRST. As far as Mr. Rogers blog, just because he is writing about me does not mean I endorse his posts on other topics. I do respect his initiative to get involved in public discourse, just as I very much respect you taking the time to post on my blog. America needs more proactive citizens who can disagree, debate and compromise to do what's best for our country. Thank you for your support and vote!

Matt, If you are going to post on blogs you ought to make yourself aware of things that transpired leading up to what you posted about. Were you aware the Harry Reid, Majority leader in the senate sent a letter signed by 40 other members of the Cesspool party to the owners of the company that Rush Limbaugh works for and tried to get him fired?

If jacks effort was bone-headed, how do you characterize Harry Reids?
